The specialised techniques used include scientific diving, in situ and remote sampling (e.g. of seawater, sediments and biota), underwater photography and videography, sonar measurements, deployment of in situ meters for collection of physical data (e.g. on temperature, salinity oxygen levels, turbidity and sea currents), sample processing, identification of flora and fauna, statistical analysis and modelling.
