With the increasing demand for environmental studies and monitoring, including ones that are necessary to satisfy to the requirements of EU policies and legislation, many of which require specialised laboratory facilities, field sampling equipment, and highly qualified staff and experts, the need was felt to set up Ecoserv Ltd. Since its establishment, the company has undertaken over 350 environmental surveys and monitoring studies; a strong indication of the company's rapid growth and trust it enjoys with local and foreign clients. Detailed environmental surveys and monitoring studies provide crucial information to assess and monitor the environment, especially with respect to policy and compliance with legislative requirements; for example, on aspects concerning environmental impact assessments, planning applications and environmental management plans. The services provided by Ecoserv aid decision-making, and help clients to take the appropriate route and adopt correct procedures, hence avoiding potentially expensive delays and incorrect approaches during the planning and implementation phases of development projects.

Staff

Ecoserv Ltd currently employs several senior environmental scientists (including highly qualified and experienced scientific divers and biologists, some of whom hold PhD and MSc degrees), a project manager, an administrative officer, junior environmental scientists, and technical/support personnel. The company is also serviced on an ad hoc basis by a number of specialist experts in the various fields of environmental science, including marine, terrestrial and freshwater ecology, fisheries biology, environmental chemistry, air quality and emissions, noise and vibration, hydrology, geology and physical oceanography.
Ecoserv's staff and consultants include some of the most qualified and experienced scientists in the Maltese Islands.

Facilities

Ecoserv Ltd has the necessary facilities, including laboratories, equipment and gear to enable it execute projects successfully and efficiently, and to effect delivery at the highest level of quality. Ecoserv Ltd uses standard techniques and state-of-the-art equipment to carry out the required sample collection and data analysis for all the studies and monitoring assignments that are entrusted to the company. This ensures appropriate collection of reliable data, and provision of high quality deliverables. Ecoserv Ltd has recently invested in equipment for data collection in relation to air quality assessments that applies standard EN methodology. The company also provides information systems management, including for modelling air quality, while Ecoserv Ltd's links with established international companies ensure the provision of services that may be unavailable locally, to help clients in evaluating compliance of their activities according to EU and national legislation and requirements.

Ensuring Quality

To ensure quality, all field and laboratory methods used by Ecoserv Ltd are according to standard and well known procedures, and follow either ISO/CEN methodology or ones that are widely accepted in the scientific community and by standards authorities. The company adopts a system of Standard Operating Procedures for all methods used in the field and laboratories. This is applied for all projects, making the whole procedure, from sample collection/receipt to issue of results, a traceable one. Furthermore, the procedures are supplemented by a quality control system.

Clients

Ecoserv Ltd. has provided environmental consultancy services to a broad and long list of clients; including various local government ministries, departments and authorities, such as the Malta Environment Planning Authority, the Malta Tourism Authority, Transport Malta, Mater Dei Hospital, Enemalta Corporation, WasteServ Malta Ltd., the Water Services Corporation, and the Ministry for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change. Moreover, Ecoserv has provided services to educational establishments such as the University of Malta, numerous local companies and some foreign ones, developers, fish farms, and non-governmental organisations.
